VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND
Here in Canada, we have been celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday on May 24 for as long as I can remember.
While the event is historically tied to Queen Victoria's natural birthday on May 24, 1819, the Canadian government amended the holiday in 1952 to ensure it always lands on the Monday preceding the 25th.
It marks when the risk of the last frost has mostly passed, allowing the soil to warm up enough for your annuals to thrive.
That's interesting. I had not heard of Victoria Day. Very English but I love any reason for a holiday. I may have to celebrate next year. I could throw a big tea party. Wouldn't that be fun. BTW, your front garden looks great.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara. Any excuse for a holiday works for me, lol. a tea party sounds wonderful, do it!!!
