A Half Way Finished Blanket

Did you grow up with one of these draped across the back of your couch?

I did.

I wish I had a picture of it, but I can see it, folded neatly on my mother's very brown, very tailored sofa, in all its brown, beige and orange glory.

As you can see, my colour pallet is very different from my her's.

Anyway, I'm feeling very nostalgic lately, and so here it is ... a half way finished blanket; a nod to happier times.

An attempt to comfort myself.

I'm longing for a simpler time when we knew what was what, when we believed in our country and took our freedoms for granted.

Will we ever know that kind of innocence again?

  1. I remember them too. That color combination brown, beige, orange... I can see it now! Yes, simpler times. But they had their worries too, the Soviets for one thing. Funny how things change. Our times will change too. I think. But I would have to say this battle is huge. But we are not alone in it.

    1. I used the Soviets as an example. You know, we are really fighting the same thing the Russian people fought then.

  3. Your blanket is lovely! This is something that was not in our home when I was growing up. My mother did not crochet or knit and I never did learn either. The mid-50's was the era of fancy crochets doilies, starched to within an inch of their frilly lives. We had lots of quilts as they were used for warmth, not decor.

    1. I remember the doilies! And my mother was an amazing quilter; all by hand. I have one of her quilts. Thanks for commenting, Donna.

  4. Hi Sue - thanks for stopping by A Breath of Fresh Air today. Aways great to meet new bloggers.

Oh yes, when I arrived in the USA back in the 60's, one of the first gifts from my husband's grandma was a crocheted Afghan blanket - I'd never seen one before but soon noticed them everywhere, haha! We had the sofa version,
and later she did one for each of her great grands - in shades of pink or blue!

Feelings on these difficult times we are dealing with are shared. Sadly, I don't think life will be the same - but we have to be strong and have hope for all countries, and the good people of the world, because so many are struggling just as we are now.

    Enjoy your Sunday.

  5. I've always been an optimist (and still am) but I don't think life will be the same. But every generation has gone through some kind of life changing turmoil so I think we will adapt. We're female, we're tough !! x

  6. Wow. You are making progress. I do remember all the hand crochet blankets. They bring back wonderful memories. I remember my sister and I saying get your feet off me as we shared the blanket and the couch.

  7. I am longing for that time too.

I have an afghan draped across my lap right now. 💕 My sister-in-law crocheted it.
