Your Inside Person
"Sixty feels like fifty, with aching feet and more forgetfulness ... but your inside person doesn't age. Your inside person is soul, is heart, in the eternal now, the ageless, the old, the young, all the ages you've ever been."
You know, I think it’s true that we don’t age internally so much. How often do you hear people say, “I can’t believe I’m sixty (or seventy or eighty)” and that is why it is exceedingly sad when intelligent vibrant people get dementia. A friend of mine, a university professor, not only highly intelligent but wonderful and whimsical, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and reached the point where he didn’t even recognize me. His death, when it thankfully came, was not something to mourn.
Today my 60 is feeling like 70. True, but those days are few and far between thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, Barbara. Our insides are ageless though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling photo! Is that your project? xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteThanks, Su. Yes, it's a blanket I've been working on.
